This year put your unwanted Christmas gifts to good use and in doing so help Guide Dogs Queensland aid thousands of people who are blind or vision impaired to live more independently.
The Harbour Town Christmas Gift Amnesty – solving the dilemma of what to do with unwanted gifts valued at more than $750 million in Australia – is on from Wednesday 26 December until Monday 21 January.
Rather than risking the embarrassment of “re-gifting”, the guilt of selling goods, or the frustration of storing gifts, people can donate presents to GDQ by dropping them off at Harbour Town Shopping Centre’s Customer Service Lounge.
Guide Dogs Queensland CEO Chris Laine said the donation of unwanted gifts is a unique way the community can help improve the quality of life of people who are living with low or no vision.
“We can use donations to the gift amnesty to help raise much-needed funds for our services and programs through the sale and raffle of unwanted presents at fundraisers throughout the year.
“We encourage people to drop their unloved gifts off to Harbour Town that would otherwise end up taking-up storage space in the cupboard. As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.
“It really is a wonderful initiative by Harbour Town and we are grateful for its support and the support of the community which will make genuine difference to our work,” said Ms Laine.
So if you receive another pair of socks that will end up in the back of your drawer; a homeware item that isn’t your style; a toy that isn’t age appropriate or a T-shirt that doesn’t quite fit; bring it to Harbour Town and ensure it is put to good use.

A Justice of the Peace signing is available at Harbour Town Gold Coast shopping centre in Biggera Waters every Wednesday.
The signing centre, operated by the Gold Coast Justice Association (GCJA), has been established as part of the JPs in the Community program.
President of the GCJA, Kevan Wolfe, said the JPs in the Community program was an initiative of the Queensland Government’s Justice Department to provide access for the public to Justice of the Peace services.
The Gold Coast Justices Association operates 11 JP signing centres at major Gold Coast shopping complexes and provides staff for the Southport and Coolangatta court houses.
The new Harbour Town signing centre, located in the Centre Management office above the Commonwealth Bank, is open on Wednesdays between 10.00 am and 12 noon.
Harbour Town manager, Gary Webb, welcomed the new JP signing centre. “Harbour Town is a major community hub and we are pleased to be able to add this service to our wide range of facilities,” he said.
“It will provide a convenient place for people to come when they need official signatures for formal documents,” he said.
